Kids Discovery Factory (KDF) is the recipient of a $2,000 Purdue University Indiana Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC) STEM micro grant. The micro grant provides funding to schools and community organizations that aim to introduce K-12 students to manufacturing experiences. KDF will use the grant funds to implement a hands-on manufacturing breakout experience during the 2022 summer STEAM Camp. Campers will explore five different STEAM careers related to manufacturing and use real tools to create a product. Grant funds will be utilized to purchase the tools and consumable materials necessary.
Since 2013, KDF has hosted an annual summer STEAM camp for kids entering Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. Throughout the years the camp has grown from a small gathering of local kids to a regional summer tradition, bringing campers from 19 different communities in southeastern Indiana and southwestern Ohio. The 2022 Summer STEAM camp is already full, with over 150 campers signed up to partake in hands-on STEAM learning July 11-14.
